Give Me a Topic and I’ll Live Write a Medium Article About It

My own take on a great idea from Zulie Rane

Zulie Rane writes some great stories here on Medium. She’s got a ton of range, covering everything from Disney princesses to tech topics in OneZero, where I’m also a regular contributor.

But I especially love the idea behind her ongoing Write With Me series. For the series, Zulie writes a Medium article live, while broadcasting the whole process on YouTube. Fans can tune in, ask questions etc. while she’s writing. And you can view her recordings later, to get a window into her creative process.

I love how Zulie is demystifying the process of creation. Too often, people feel like creating content or writing on Medium requires you to be in a proper flow state, follow some complex ritual, spend hours on outlining and ideation, etc. If you ditch all that stuff, just dive in, and start developing content instead of worrying about getting everything perfect, you’ll do much better. You can even learn to write Medium articles one-handed.

Demystifying the creative process is something I’ve also talked about extensively with Matt Farley of Motern Media. Matt is the most prolific musician in history, and has published over 21,000 songs about basically every topic imaginable.
